  • L1-Cache (Instruktionen + Daten): 32 KByte + 32 KByte
  • besitzt MMX und 3DNow!-Befehle: 21 Zusatzinstruktionen zum x86-Befehlssatz zur Steigerung der Leistung und des Realitätsgrades bei Multimedia Anwendungen sowie MPEG-Wiedergabe. Dieser erweiterte Befehlssatz muss von der Software unterstützt werden (z.B. Microsoft DirectX Version 6)
  • Anfänglich ist der AMD K6-2 Prozessor mit dem Prozessorkern 'Chomper' ausgestattet worden. Äußerliches Merkmal ist die Nummer in der linken unteren Ecke des Keramikgehäuses: '26050'; der CPU-ID meldet Modell 8 / Familie 5 / Stepping 0. Die neueren Exemplare beinhalten bereits den CPU-Kern des Nachfolgers K6-III namens 'CXT' mit dem Aufdruck '26351'; CPU-ID: Modell 8 / Familie 5 / Stepping 12. Die Änderung am CPU-Kern hat Konsequenzen bezüglich der Write-Allocation-Funktion des AMD Prozessors.
  • Ein weiterer Unterschied betrifft die Multiplikator-Einstellung: die frühere Einstellung "2-fach" für den Multiplikator wird bei der CXT-CPU jetzt als "6-fach" ausgelegt. Dadurch lässt sich die CPU auf alten Mainboards, die nur eine Multiplikatoreinstellungen von max. 5 besitzen, auch mit einem Multiplikator 6 betreiben.
  • Bei Verwendung einer AMD-K6-2 ab 350 MHz kann unter Windows 95 OSR2, OSR2.1 oder OSR2.5 zu folgenden Fehlermeldungen kommen:
    - Device IOS failed to initialize.Windows Protection Error.
    - You must reboot your computer
    - Windows Protection Error. You must reboot your computer
    Diese Meldung soll laut Angabe von AMD nicht auf einen Fehler im Prozessor herrühren, sondern seine Ursache in den Systemdateien IOS.VxD, ESDI_506.PDR oder SCSIPORT.PDR haben. Dieses Problem kann auftreten, wenn AMD K6-2 Prozessoren ab 350MHz eingesetzt werden, jedoch nicht unter Windows 98 oder Windows NT. Unter www.microsoft.com sind Patches für die jeweiligen Windows-Versionen erhältlich, die dieses Problem beheben.
